Medical Assisting Mission:
Our mission is to prepare individuals who are competent, ethical, and compassionate caregivers who are prepared to pass their certification exam and enter the workplace.
Program Description:
The program spans 6 months and is divided into sections identified as 9101A MA I, 9102A MA II, 9203A MA III, 9104A MA IV, 9105A MA V. Classes start in July and January. Students are expected to complete 100 hours of clinical hours after completion of class prior to taking their exam. Applications will be taken throughout the year, correlating to the program closest to the application date.
Clinical Rotations:
Clinical rotations occur at a variety of local agencies. Those include: CAMC, Thomas Health Systems, Cabell Huntington Hospital, and Cabin Creek Health Systems.
Uniforms:
Students will be required to supply their own uniforms for clinicals. They are required to wear uniforms at clinical rotation.
School Hours:
Classes meet in-person at Garnet Career Center Monday through Wednesday, between the hours of 8:00 and 3:00. Thursday & Friday classes are Virtual. Lectures are uploaded and assignments posted with time due, but class work can be done at anytime on those days. Clinical hours are according to the medical office placement/office hours. Those hours are coordinated with the clinical sites based on number of hours needed within a 4 week time frame. Clinicals occur at the last 100 hours, usually around the last four weeks of the class.

The Medical Assisting Program is approved for the following: Veteran’s Benefits, Division of Rehabilitation, Worker’s Compensation, Federal Pell Grant, WV HEAPS, and Workforce Investment Fund. Faculty:
The instructor is a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant with the Nation Healthcareer Association. This is a national certification that can be used within the United States. The instructor has a diverse background and many experiences which lends richness to the medical assistant curriculum.
