Garnet Career Center is pleased to announce that we have been awarded supplemental funds for the Student and Institutional Portion of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) as authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act, 2021 (ARP), authorized by Congress under the CARES Act. The signed Certificate and Agreement of the HEERF I was returned to the USDE on July 15th, 2020. Garnet intends to use and distribute these funds to provide emergency Financial Aid Grants to eligible Garnet students who have been impacted by the COVID-19 and for COVID-19 related institutional expenses. Garnet received a total of $564,096 from the USDE for the supplemental grant Student Portion and Institutional Portion combined of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds III from the ARP Act on May 12, 2021.

Garnet Career Center is looking forward to awarding the total required amount of $282,049 to eligible students who were actively enrolled on or after September 2, 2021 through July 31, 2022. Funds will be divided each quarter among eligible students based on program hours and enrollment status and according.  Eligible students will receive CARES Act Emergency Financial Aid payments. Allocations to students will be made in the form of relief checks to be given/ mailed at the end of the 3rd and 4th quarters for 2021 and the 1st and 2nd quarters for 2022 or distributed to active students attending classes in person.

$89,000 was divided among 49 eligible students in the 1st quarter of 2022 for the 3rd quarter of the 2021-22 school year. Checks were distributed on March 2, 2022, to in person students or during the week of March 3-4 to students who were absent on the 2nd.

 An eligible student is a student who is actively enrolled as of September 2, 2021 in an Automotive Technology, Practical Nursing, Medical Assisting, or Phlebotomy Technician program as a full or part time student, is maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress according to the program guidelines, has been actively participating in our Emergency Distance Learning activities, is a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen as defined by Federal Title IV regulations.

Guidance from the Federal government indicates that these funds will NOT be considered taxable income and will not impact a student’s eligibility for other Federal or State benefits a student may be entitled to.
