Garnet Career Center is pleased to announce that we have gained access to the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds authorized by Congress under the CARES Act. The signed Certificate and Agreement was returned to the USDE on May 26th, 2020. Garnet intends to use no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. Garnet will receive a total of $148,515 from the USDE.
The first half of the Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students from the CARES Act was received June 4th, 2020. Garnet Career Center has opted to provide each of our eligible full-time students with an Emergency Relief check. We are excited to announce the distribution of $74,258.00 to approximately 80 students.
Some funding will be made available to our part-time Phlebotomy students; Eligible Phlebotomy students will be notified of the amount of their Emergency Relief check within the next week.
Checks were mailed on June 11, 2020 and students should expect to receive them at the beginning of next week. 81 eligible students received CARES Act Emergency Financial Aid payments.
An eligible student is a student who is actively enrolled in a Auto Tech, LPN, or Business program as a full time student, is maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress according to the program guidelines, has been actively participating in our Emergency Distance Learning activities, is a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen as defined by Federal Title IV regulations, and is NOT in default on a Federal Student Loan.
Guidance from the Federal government indicates that these funds will NOT be considered taxable income and will not impact a student’s eligibility for other Federal or State benefits a student may be entitled to.
