Auto classes start Thursday, January 6, 2022 (9:00 a.m. first day)
The Automotive Technology program provides detailed instruction in the fundamentals and skills needed to inspect, diagnose, repair and adjust automotive vehicles. The Automotive program has high standards of training and placement. Students enrolled in the program participate in the EDGE program, which provides community college credit after completion of the Garnet program.
Application Process:
Students must submit the Garnet Career Center application and the application fee to the main office along with the required documentation (high school diploma/transcript or GED/TASC transcript; Driver's License/photo ID; Proof of Insurance). Enrollment periods run from Jan-June for July class and September- December for January class.
Entrance Testing:
Students must take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) before being admitted to the program. Students must meet a minimum score in order to be admitted. Test is scheduled with the Counselor during the enrollment periods.
Job Internships:
After major competencies have been acquired, trainees may be given the opportunity to receive on-the-job training. Trainees will apply for a job, interview, and if accepted, will be transferred to on-the-job status. They will be required to complete all course work as assigned by the instructors.
ASE Certification:
Students are given the opportunity and encouraged to take the ASE exams. ASE certification is recognized nationwide as a standard of excellence for the automotive industry. ASE's mission is to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service through the testing and certification of repair and service professionals.
Uniforms and Tools:
A complete set of tools is provided and included in the total program cost.
School Hours:
Classes are arranged on a daily basis, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Individual class schedules will vary. New students begin class each July and January.
Financial Assistance:
Financial Aid information is available to students enrolled or enrolling in the program. For information, please call 304-348-6195 and ask for the financial aid advisor (Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 until 1:00). The Automotive Technology Program is approved for the following: Veteran's Benefits, Division of Rehabilitation, Worker's Compensation, Federal Pell Grant, WV HEAPS, and Workforce Investment Fund. (See the Financial Aid tab at the top of this screen). Most 529 Plans are accepted, however student loans are not accepted.
Faculty:
The Automotive Technology instructors are Master certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence and are former Automotive Specialists who have years of in-field experience.
